Our Review of H.E.M. Ankle Rehab

HEM Ankle RehabWhen it comes to healing a sprained ankle, most people just go with the standard ice and rest treatment.  Everyone’s heard of R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compression, elevation), but not as many have heard of H.E.M., though it seems that word is spreading fast.  We have seen a number of pro athletes and varying people of all ages and lifestyles using H.E.M. with good results, so we felt obligated to take a look for ourselves.

What has surprised us the most is the fact that even though 25,000 people sprain their ankle every day, very few actually do a good rehab program to heal.  As a result, the statistics are very high for re-injuring a sprained ankle, especially in the sports and fitness world.  In effect, rest and ice only does half the job and leaves the ankle joint weak and exposed for further sprains.

So, a good rehab program is essential not just for speeding up the healing process, but also improving the quality of it as well. And that brings us to our review of the H.E.M. Ankle Rehab System.

HEM ANkle Rehab AuthorH.E.M. was created by well known fitness expert, Scott Malin, NASM-CPT.   H.E.M. is a 3 step treatment system that employs specific treatment protocols for healing a sprained ankle.  It does not use wraps or tape or braces or really any equipment, which we like very much.

It is an eBook that you download, which is good since most people who have a sprained ankle are immobilized.  Downloading it allows a person to sit there and start using the techniques in the eBook right away.  Most people just can’t get out to a bookstore or sporting good store to buy equipment, so H.E.M. is a great option for people who have a sprained ankle.  Plus, we found as we worked through the treatments in the book that they worked much better than anything we had done in the past.

Granted, most of what people do is just rest and ice.  But, we didn’t fully realize that the reliance on ice could actually have a detrimental effect on the ankle after 2 days.  Not to say that ice itself is bad, it’s just ineffective.  So, relying on it has an overall negative effect, because it keeps you from doing more active rehab techniques which will help your ankle heal.

H.E.M., in essence is a simple three step rehab system that incorporates some solid techniques that have been shown to have significant clinical benefit for healing an ankle.  In one case, we had feedback that a person felt significantly better by the next day.  That is something we have never experienced or heard from something like rest and ice.  In addition, we are fans of the fact that H.E.M. strengthens the ankle which is critical to overall speed, agility and ankle health.

Also, while H.E.M. not only heals neuromsucular damage to the ankle, it also breaks up and removes scar tissue.  These two things are vital to healing the ankle fully and something that we had not seen before in any other ankle treatment.  One other thing of note… H.E.M. works to improve healthy range of motion, which when taken with added strength, really helps minimize the risk of a future sprained ankle.

Finally, we love the fact that H.E.M. includes a prehab exercise and stretching program for people who have weak ankles or those who want to really ensure their ankles are protected after an injury.  But, even though H.E.M. is very comprehensive, it never feels overwhelming in any way.  The system includes everything a person needs for ankle rehab and prehab, but keeps it simple and easy to follow.  And best of all, it works for people of all ages and fitness level, so you don’t need to be a pro to get fast and great results.

In conclusion, after testing this system ourselves, we found the 3 step H.E.M. Ankle Rehab Program is a very impressive treatment.  We found it had great results and have continued to hear great feedback from others we know who have used it.  If you have a sprained ankle and want to heal fully and quickly, we strongly recommend using it.  In fact, H.E.M. gets our highest recommendation!
