The Warriors did get some positive news from Wednesday’s MRI exam on Curry’s sprained right ankle. Tests revealed Curry didn’t sustain any ligament damage in Tuesday’s exhibition loss to Sacramento.

He had ligament damage in the off season so it was a major concern. However, the surgical repairs made in the offseason surgery are still intact. Curry will officially be listed as day to day, but it’s going to take some quick healing for him to be able to play Sunday, when the Warriors host the Los Angeles Clippers in their season opener. “Hoping for the Christmas Miracle,” Curry said.

We hope Stephen rests his ankle instead of rushing back to play. Even though it’s a short season, over 60 games is long enough, especially with a rushed schedule. Better to take another week and heal it right!

The adrenaline had long since worn off by the time Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger slowly — very slowly — trudged toward his locker following the Steelers’ 14-3 win over Cleveland on Thursday night.

As he talked to reporters, his sprained left ankle heavily taped, all Roethlisberger could think about was the chance to sit down.

“I feel like my ankle is about to explode,” he said. “I’m ready to get off it.”

Even for a player who prides himself on playing through pain — Roethlisberger’s already fought through a sprained left foot and fractured right thumb this season without missing a meaningful snap — this was a bit much.

The way Roethlisberger figures it, if he can stand up at all he’ll give it a shot. It’s what he does.

Big Ben is the model pro athlete. Play through pain. Play through injury. The problem is that his ankle sustained serious injury which will make him slower.

And, since it is unlikely he will allow it to heal, the scar tissue that will develop will not only keep him slower, it will increase his chance of another sprained ankle soon.

But, since he plans on taping it to the hilt, it will actually put his knee in great jeapordy. We hope nothing bad happens to him, but when you immobilize the ankle and you have to move, the body has to get the mobility from somewhere and what it does is go upward to the next joint (which is the knee).

But, since the knee has almost no mobility, it can tear easily if asked to move beyond its limited range of motion.

So, Ben, please take some time and heal your ankle before playing on it again. We fear this may go on deaf ears, but if you are at all like Ben, just remember that you may not have millions of dollars and pro trainers to help you out.

Take the time to heal your sprained ankle the right way to regain healthy motion and reduce the risk of injury.

Football is a tough sport. It is played on uneven ground and requires strength and agility, especially for a running back. With 300 pound guys trying to pummel you, you have to be fast.

But, weak ankles make you slow. And with the uneven ground, it is very easy to twist and sprain an ankle, especially with a bunch of guys chasing you. So, it is extremely important to make sure your ankles are not only strong, but also agile with healthy range of motion. That will make you faster and significantly decrease your risk of an ankle sprain.

Kevin, we hope you heal that ankle up well before rushing back to play… good luck this week!
